Schneider Electric wins tender for Jakarta smart grid project

Energy management and automation specialist Schneider Electric has recently won tender held by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN?s Jakarta Distribution Area (PLN APD) to develop smart grid system in the area.
PLN said in a statement that Schneider will provide and install its EcoStruxure Grid solution at 1,232 substation locations (middle point) in Jakarta, from June through December of this year. The company has offered RTU MiCOM C264, which is part of the EcoStruxure Grid solution, as the main technology.
PLN said that the move toward grid digitization opens huge opportunity for the company to reduce blackouts and other technical risks in Jakarta area.
Based on the open and inter-operable EcoStruxure system architecture and platform for the internet of things (IoT), and tailored for the grid market, EcoStruxure Grid enables distribution utilities to make the most of the new opportunities created by utility digitization, Schneider said in its website.
EcoStruxure Grid is designed to provide an integrated framework for utilities to tackle the increasing complexity of grid operations and to optimize asset management. IoT aims to enhance utilities? operations by enabling mobility, sensing, cloud, analytics and cybersecurity capabilities, and by allowing them to manage collected, aggregated, cleaned and enriched data to create value.
