Scomi Marine to get coal shipping contract from Tenaga

Malaysian shipping firm Scomi Marine Bhd announced on Friday it had received a letter of intent from TNB Fuel Services Sdn Bhd, a unit of Malaysia electricity firm Tenaga Nasional Bhd. which expresses its intention to award the contract for carriage of bulk coal.
The company said the Contract will be for a period of three years commencing from 1st October 2006, with an option for TNBF to extend it for another two years.
Under the contract, Scomi will be required to transport coal from Australia, Indonesia and South Africa to Malaysia. The aggregate quantity of coal to be transported will be 500,000 metric tones per year (with 20% variation).
The actual quantity of coal to be transported and from which country the coal is to be transported will be determined by TNBF upon finalization of the Contract.(alex)
