Scomi unit to form partnerhip

Malaysian firm SCOMI Marine Bhd's Indonesian subsidiary, PT Rig Tenders Tbk, will soon form a 70:30 joint venture with Marco Polo Marine Ltd's subsidiary, MP Ventures Pte Ltd, to vie for selected opportunities in the oil and gas sector, Business Times reported.

The prospects include vessel ownership and chartering services, Scomi Marine said in a statement that was released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Rig Tenders, listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange, owns and operates vessels for the logistic needs of coal as well as oil and gas companies.

Its clients include PT Adaro, PT Arutmin, Chevron, CNOCC and Total.

Indonesia's Marco Polo is a growing integrated shipping group. Its services include chartering, rechartering and transhipping tugboats and barges for various industries, such as mining, commodity, trading, shipping and construction.

"The venture is in line with our strategy of adding new vessels to our current fleet for the offshore support division," Scomi Marine president Mukhnizam Mahmud said.(*)
