Singapore-based firm Scorpio Logistics said its offshore floating terminal (OFT)/transshipper named ?Zeus? has been commercially operating offshore Samarinda, East Kalimantan since August 2009.

Director Daniele Pratolongo told Petromindo.Com on a side line of McCloskey Asia Pacific Conference in Bali on Thursday that Zeus is expected to transship 6-7 million tonnes of coal from Samarinda area in August 2009-August 2010 period.

According to him, Zeus has been fully contracted for the period. He did not give names of the customers.

He said the company can still accommodate spot clients, despite the fact that it has been fully contracted.

Zeus features two MacGregor 32 tonne cranes and a Bedeschi conveyor system. The OFT is capable of loading vessels at rates of 30,000 tonnes per day or more.

The platform cranes also have a 38 meter reach which gives Zeus homogenous blending capability. Two side-by-side barges with different coal qualities can be unloaded simultaneously, and variable speed conveyors allow customers to blend offshore without the need for double-handling.

Scorpio is also in the process of constructing the second bigger capacity, which is expected to become onstream in the third quarter of 2010, he said. He did not give detail. (denny)
