Sebuku increases coal production

Singapore Exchange-listed miner Straits Asia Limited said on Thursday that its Sebuku coal mine in South Kalimantan would produce 4 million tonnes in 2007, up from this year?s production of 3.5 million tonnes.

?In view of this outlook, the Company has already commenced the engineering and feasibility work required to progress the planned upgrade of the Sebuku coal processing plant, with a target to increase sustainable processing capacity to an annualised level of at least 6.0 million tonnes,? the company said. The company did not say when the 6MTPA production level would be achieved.

The government had given approval for Sebuku?s area expansion by 6,500 hectares, increasing the company?s total resources to 103 million tonnes from 71 million tonnes. The resources, according to the company, comprise of 57 million tonnes of measured resources and 46 million tonnes of indicated resources. (alex)
