ExxonMobil Cepu Ltd. (EMCL) stated that a security incident occurred at EPC 1 of the Banyu Urip Project site in the Cepu block on Saturday (today).
Vice President Public and Government Affairs ExxonMobil Indonesia, Erwin Maryoto told Petromindo.com that subcontract workers employed through Tripatra Samsung, EPC 1 contractor were not allowed to leave site early at lunchtime. Several workers became agitated and the situation escalated and led to disturbance involving property and vehicle damage.
Current situation at site has been under control, Erwin said.
"We are working closely with Tripatra-Samsung, the EPC 1 contractor and government officials to address the situation. The safety of our workforce and facilities is our top priority," he said.
Erwin noted, out of an abundance of caution, his firm have reduced production in affected areas.
Cepu block is jointly operated by EMCL and PT Pertamina EP Cepu. The project is being developed by various contractors. EPC works at the project are divided into five packages with the Tripatra-Samsung consortium handling the EPC-1 package to develop production processing facilities.
