Sejahtera Alam to build geothermal power plant

PT Sejahtera Alam Energy, a subsidiary of PT Trinergy, plans to spend up to US$40 million to build a geothermal power plant in Baturaden, Central Java, Kontan reported on Friday.

Sejahtera?s President Director Ahmad Nugraha said in Jakarta on Thursday that his company had signed a power purchase agreement with state electricity company PLN under which the latter would buy electricity from Sejahtera at 9.47 US cent per kilowatt hour (kWh).

?In April, this year, we will start building the infrastructure, and in October we will begin exploration drilling,? he said, adding that the power plant would have three units.

The first unit which will have capacity of 110 MW is expected to begin commercial operation in 2017, while the second and third units, which will have capacity of 77 MW and 44 MW, respectively, are scheduled for operation in 2019 and 2021.

The Baturaden geothermal field has the capacity to produce power up to 220 MW.(*)
