IDX-listed PT Sekawan Intipratama Tbk hopes to be able to start production at its coal mine in Melak, West Kutai, East Kalimantan, in July of this year.
Sekawan Director Suluhudin Noor said Friday that it has obtained the various necessary permits including forestry and for jetty development. It has also obtained clearance from the local government to use part of the government-owned road for coal transport.
Sekawan via subsidiary PT Indo Wana Bara Mining Coal operates a 5,000-ha coal concession in West Kutai Regency, with estimated resources of 533.31 million tons, and reserves of 288.1 million tons.
The company was supposed to start production in April, but it found difficulties to complete land acquisition for hauling road due as locals demanded much higher price and additional requirements. Suluhudin said that the company has now obtained permit from the local government to use part of the government-owned roads.
Sekawan said in February that it aimed to produce a total of 1.75 million tons of coal this year.
