IDX-listed PT Sekawan Intipratama plans to build a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam in cooperation with that country?s state-owned firms under a deal made earlier by its recently acquired coal mining subsidiary PT Indo Wana Bara.
?We?ll develop a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam, but don?t know yet when it will start,? said Sekawan Corporate Secretary, Herry Primabodo on Wednesday. He hoped the project could be started next year.
Sekawan in 2012 signed a 30-year agreement to supply up to 90 million tons of coal to Vietnam to be used by the latter?s state-owned firms Vitacoming and Petro Vietnam Power to fuel planned power plants as the country aims to develop a total of 23,000 MW of plants until 2020.
Herry said that the Vietnam government has invited Sekawan to be involved in the power plant projects.
