Oil and gas firm PT Sele Raya Merangin Dua (SRMD) has spudded the North Tampi-1 (NT-1) exploration well in the Merangin II block, according to a top official of the firm.

?The NT-1 exploration well is currently being drilled and has reached a depth of 118 feet,? the company?s President and General Manager Juchiro Tampi told Petromindo.com.

He added that the drilling program will last for 45 days.

The well is drilled using a 750 HP rig owned by PT Daqing Jaya Petroleum Engineering, capable of drilling up to 6,500 feet.

The Merangin II block is located in three regencies, namely Musi Rawas, Musi Rawas Utara, both in South Sumatra province, and Sorolangun in Jambi province.

The block was awarded to Sele Raya in October 2003. Sele Raya operates the block with a 44.6 percent interest, while the remaining is held by Merangin B.V. (35.4 percent) and Sinochem Merangin Ltd. (20 percent).
