Sembawang Kimtrans bags S$43.26m order from Banpu

Singapore integrated mining logistic provider Sembawang Kimtrans Ltd. announced on Tuesday it had won a S$43.26 million contract of 3 years fixed term plus 2 years option to supply and operate a total 7 units of self propelled barges (SPB) for Banpu PCL to be operated in Kalimantan.

The first unit and the prototype of the fleet was launched last January.

According to Kimtrans, the SPB is specially designed to maneuver in challenging water of Mahakam and Barito rivers where waterways are tight, winding and with extreme tidal difference of up to 9 meters high.

The SPB which has size of 320 ft (length) x 80ft (breadth) x 20 ft (depth) is designed to handle up to 1 million tones of coal per annum. The SPBs will be transporting coal from Banpu?s mines in inland Kalimantan to deep-sea terminals and anchorages for export.
