IDX-listed cement giant PT Semen Indonesia Tbk has started the construction of a 30.6 MW power plant, which will utilize the waste gas from the company?s Tuban I-IV cement plants in East Java.

At a ground breaking ceremony on Wednesday, Semen Indonesia President Director Dwi Soetjipto told the press that the construction process was expected to be completed at the end of 2016.

Once in operation, it would allow Semen Indonesia to reduce electricity supply from state-owned power firm PT PLN, which can be reallocated to other consumers.

Semen Indonesia is teaming up with Japan?s JFE Engineering in the Rp 638 billion waste heat recovery power generation project.

The company in 2011 completed a similar project, with a capacity of 8.5 MW, at its Indarung cement plant in West Sumatra. (*)
