Seven investors have taken part in the tender for building a 2x55 megawatt-combined cycle power plant on Batam Island, an official of state power firm PLN told Petromindo.Com Tuesday.
They were Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian firms including Dong Sang, CNIC, Marubeni and Meta Epsi, said PLN director Ali Herman Ibrahim.
Ali refused to say when tender winners would be announced.
PLN Batam and Batam Authority have formed a joint venture to be in charge of the construction of the power plant. The plant was planned to start operation in 2006.
Reports said PLN Batam also planned to build a steam power plant on the island.
Currently, PLN Batam operates 33 diesel electric generators with combined capacity of 173 megawatts. However, it has dropped to 140 MW because some of them were too old and could no longer function normally, PLN officials said. (godang)
