Seven power plants in Java to be relocated to Riau

State electricity company PLN will relocate seven power plants from Java and Madura to Riau in a bid to further increase the power supply in Sumatra especially in the oil rich province.

The relocation which will be started this year will be able to increase the power supply in Riau by 142 MW in the province which currently still suffers a power shortage.

PLN said that four power plants which would include a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 20 MW in Gilitimur in Madura, a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 18 MW on Cirebon, West Java and two units of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 22 MW each in Cilacap, Central Java would be soon relocated to the province in the first stage of the relocation program.

The four power plants with combined capacity of 82 MW are expected to begin operation in September, this year.

According to PLN, the other three plants consisting of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 20 MW in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, and two units of combined cycle power plants in Madura with a capacity of 20 MW each would be relocated to Riau in the second stage of the relocation program.

The three power plants are expected to be able to start operation in February, next year. (giok)
