North Sumatra is expected to soon obtain extra electricity supply of 450 MW, thus helping to resolve the electricity crisis in the province, the provincial office of the state-owned electricity firm PT. PLN said.

The company said in a statement over the weekend that it has been making efforts to accelerate the operation of a number of diesel-fired power plants in the province.

The statement said that two power plants each with a capacity of 20 MW in Glugur and Belawan areas have started operation in September.

It added that four power plants with a combined capacity of 150 MW will be in operation in November. Two plants are located in Payah Pasir and another two in Tanjung Morawa.

In December, seven plants with a combined capacity of 260 MW will be in operation including the 100 MW Belawan plant in the first week of December.
