Sewatama to invest $11m for Gowa mini hydropower project

IDX-listed power producer PT Sumberdaya Sewatama announced on Wednesday it would allocate US$11 million to build a mini hydropower plant with a capacity of 5.2 MW in Gowa regency, South Sulawesi.

The investment is allocated for the first phase of the PLTM Sapaya project, the firm said.

?Barring obstacles, the construction of the project will be finished in 2017 and the power plant will come onstream,? President Director Elan B. Fuadi on last Thursday, May 28, 2015, during the groundbreaking ceremony in Tanetea hamlet, Bontomanai village, Bungaya district.

The power plant is owned by a joint venture between PT Nagata Dinamika (86 percent) ? a subsidiary of Sumberdaya Sewatama ? and Perusda Gowa Mandiri (16 percent), a company owned by the Gowa regency.

The PLTM Sapaya will supply power to state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara?s (PLN) Kalebajeng distribution system through Parombanoa distribution system which covers several districts in the regency, namely Sapaya, Bonto Lempangan, Tompo Bulu and Tinggi Moncong.

Legal requirements for the project is being finalized and a Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) for the project is expected to be signed in August, 2015 and the construction is expected to start at the end of 2015.

Sewatama, through several subsidiaries, have started several mini hydropower projects. One of them is PLTM Ma?dong in Toraja Utara regency, also in South Sulawesi, with a capacity of 10 MW which is now under construction. The power plant will meet the power needs of Rentepao area of the regency. The area is known a tourism spot in the province.

The firm also said that in June (this month), the firm will make the tenth payment of the coupon of its bonds worth Rp 23.45 billion. The Rp 1 trillion bonds were issued in 2012.
