PT Shell Indonesia has again lowered the price of one of its gasoline products amid a growing competition in the country?s fuel market following the government?s move to cut the price of the subsidized Premium gasoline and diesel recently.

Beginning February, Shell Super 92 is sold at Rp 5,800 per liter (1 US$ = Rp 11,800) down Rp 100 from Rp 5,900 per liter previously. However, the prices of Shell Super Extra 95 and Shell Diesel are still maintained at Rp 6,400 and Rp 6,900 per liter, respectively.

Shell?s media relations and external affairs and communication manager Fathia Syarif said in Jakarta on Thursday that the cut was made as part of the company?s commitment to provide more competitive price in the country?s fuel retail market.

Malaysian fuel retailer Petronas?s head of business development Wisnu Widijoko said that the company had no plan for now to follow Shell?s move, but he said that the prices of the company?s current fuel products remained competitive.

At present, Petronas 92 and Petronas 95 are sold at Rp 5,800 and Rp 6,400 per liter, respectively while Petronas Diesel is sold at Rp 6,850 per liter.

Meanwhile, for non-subsidized fuels, state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina said that it did not have plan to lower their prices. At present, Pertamax Plus is sold in Jakarta at Rp 6,400 per liter, Pertamax at Rp 5,925 per liter and Bio Pertamax at Rp 5,925 per liter. (*)
