Royal Dutch-Shell hopes that the government will soon make a decision to approve the Plan of Development (PoD) for the Masela block in Maluku province that has been proposed by the contractors of the block.

The Masela block, which is home to the gas-rich Abadi field, is operated by Japanese firm Inpex Corp. with a 65 percent interest, and Shell with the remaining 35 percent.

"Shell and Inpex remain committed to developing the Abadi gas field using FLNG technology, as it is considered the best option, most cost effective, and more beneficial to eastern Indonesia and the Indonesian people," General Manager of External Relations at Shell Indonesia Haviez Gautama told Petromindo.com ,

According to Haviez, while waiting for the approval of the PoD, at this time, along with Inpex, Shell continues to assess human resource requirements needed to keep the project?s early stage activities ongoing, so that they can resume works as soon as possible once the approval has been obtained.

Earlier, upstream authority SKK Migas said Inpex planned to downsize its manpower following the government?s indecision over the PoD, while Shell has told its engineers that have been dedicated for the project to find jobs at other projects of the firm.
