Anglo-Dutch energy firm Royal Dutch Shell Plc through its Indonesian unit firm PT Shell Indonesia opened a new gasoline station in Jalan Serpong Raya, Tangerang early this week, the company's 18th station in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabotabek) area.

Royal Dutch Shell's Executive Vice President for Retail, Josef Waltl said that the opening of the new gasoline station was in line with Shell's strong commitment to further expanding its fuel retail network in the country.

He said that the company would open two more gasoline stations in Jabotabek area later this year as part of the expansion plan which was expected to further increase the number of the gasoline stations to between 100 and 200 stations within the next few years.

Meanwhile, Shell Indonesia's Vice president for External Affairs and Business Development  Wally Saleh said the company is building four other gas stations in Jabotabek, two of which are scheduled to be completed at the end of this year and early next year, respectively.

Shell became the first company to enter the country's retail fuel market following the removal of Pertamina's exclusive rights in the distribution of fuel in the country in late 2005. (Bernard)
