Shell opens 1st gas station in E. Java

Indonesian downstream unit of energy giant Royal Dutch/Shell officially opens its first gas station in Surabaya, East Java on Wednesday.

Shell Indonesia spokeswoman Fathia Syarif said Wednesday that the new gas station is Shell's 36th gas station in Indonesia.

The rest of Shell's gas stations are located in greater Jakarta area.

Separately, Tubagus Haryono, Chairman of downstream regulatory body BPH Migas said Shell will open a new gas station in Medan, North Sumatra next month.

According to Tubagus, Shell aims to operate 400 gas stations in Indonesia's major cities within the next five years. (godang)
