Shell opens first bitumen depot in Indonesia

PT Shell Indonesia, an Indonesian unit of Anglo-Dutch energy firm Royal Dutch/ Shell Plc, has officially opened the company?s first bitumen depot in Indonesia.

Located in Cirebon, West Java, the bitumen depot is equipped with three main tanks with a total receiving capacity of 5,750 metric ton. The new depot is operated by the company?s bitumen business unit Shell Bitumen which has operated in 35 countries in the world

Shell Indonesia?s President Director Darwin Silalahi said that the bitumen depot was built to support the company?s long-term business plan to further expand its share in Indonesia?s growing bitumen market.

With the operation of the new depot, Shell will be able not only to ensure certainty in the delivery but also to maintain the quality of the product, he said.

Darwin said that the bitumen demand in Indonesia which is estimated to reach 1.2 million tons a year at present would further increase in the future and the operation of the depot would enable Shell to take advantage from the growing market. (godang)
