Shell, Petronas, Statoil, Pertamina win block tenders

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced on Wednesday the winners of the block tenders of 2014, which include major companies such as Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Petronas, Statoil and state owned PT Pertamina (Persero).

The tenders comprised of three categories: First, the Phase 1 Direct Offer Tender of Conventional Oil and Gas Block, held from June 2 through July 16, 2014; second, the Phase 2 Regular Tender of Conventional Oil and Gas Block, held from June 2 through Oct. 6, 2014; and third, the Direct Offer Tender of Non-Conventional Oil and Gas Block held from June 23 through Aug. 7, 2014.

In the Phase 1 Direct Tender of Conventional Oil and Gas Block, a total of 13 bid documents were bought for eight working areas. But, there are only six winners, including the consortium of PT Petcon Resources and Petronas Carigali International E&P BV for Kualakurun block onshore Central Kalimantan; Shell Exploration Company B.V for Offshore Pulau block, offshore Maluku; and Pertamina for Abar and Anggursi blocks, both offshore West Java.

In the Phase I Regular Tender of Conventional Oil and Gas Block, five working areas were offered, but only three of them attracted bidders and two bidders. There are only two winners in the tender, namely Petronas Carigali International E&P BV for North Madura II block, offshore East Java and Statoil ASA for Aru Trough 1 block offshore Aru Island.

Both firms? firm commitment for three year of exploration includes US$2 million for G&G, 700 km 2D seismic survey and drilling of three exploration wells. Total investment for the firm commitment is $70.9 million, while signature bonus amounts to $3 million

In the Direct Offer Tender of Non-Conventional Oil and Gas Block, three working areas were offered and all of them attracted bidders. A total of eight bid documents were bought for the three working areas.

The firm commitment of the three winners of the tender for three years of exploration includes $1.10 million for G&G study, 500 km 2D seismic survey, and drilling of three wells. Investment for the firm commitment total $37.025 million, while signature bonuses payable by the three total $3 million.

In total, the 11 winners of the tenders have $144.25 million in firm commitment for three years of exploration. Signature bonuses payable to the government total $12 million.
