The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to issue a new regulation that would require private-owned gasoline stations (SPBU) such as those operated by Shell and Total to sell their fuel products at the same retail price to those sold at stations operated by state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina in major cities in the country.

This was revealed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan on Thursday. He did not provide further details about the plan.

Jonan added that the government is also determined to push for the development of SPBUs in remote regions to help ensure equal fuel distribution across the country.

Meanwhile, Director General of Oil and Gas at the ministry IGN Wiratmaja Puja was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that the government is considering to provide higher margin as part of incentives to push companies to develop SPBUs in remote regions. He stopped short of disclosing the size margins to be offered.
