Shooting incidents near PT Freeport?s mine kills one police officer

A series of shooting incidents in Tembagapura, Papua Province, near PT Freeport Indonesia?s mine, during the past few days killed one member of the police?s mobile brigade unit, Antara reported late Monday.
The state news agency quoted Head of Public Relations Division at Papua Police, Ahmad Kamal as saying that four police officers were shot on Monday morning while trying to evacuate the corpse of a police officer who was shot on Sunday. The four police officers are now being treated at a local hospital.
Ahmad said the perpetrators were members of the KKB Armed Criminal Group, led by Sabinus Waker, who also shot two other police officers, and a convoy of PT Freeport vehicles in two separate incidents on Saturday, but there were no casualties.
Gold and copper giant PT Freeport suspended operations of its Big Gossan underground mine in Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, following gas leak incident on October 18, as the company launched investigation process. (*)
