PT Badak NGL, the operator of the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan, plans to shut down one train in the second semester of 2016 due to the decline in gas supplies.
President Director/CEO Salis S. Aprlian said gas supplies to the LNG plant will decline as contractors are expected to cut their production because their contracts are going to expire.
At present, of the total of eight existing trains, only four are still in operation. In the second semester of this year, only three of them will continue operation, he said.
The LNG plant is supplied with gas by Total E&P Indonesia, Vico and Chevron. Total?s contract on Mahakam expires in 2017, while Vico?s contract expires in 2018. The government has decided not to extend their contracts.
