Siam Cement sees Indonesian coal mine production to start mid-2009

SCT Co Ltd, a unit of Thai cement maker Siam Cement PCL expects coal production from its mine in Satui to start mid-2009 with initial production of 1 million tonnes per annum, a company official said.

Coal Center Manager Chatrabhop Pontham told Petromindo.Com on Monday that the entire coal production from the mine would be shipped to Thailand to feed the company?s plants.

SCT has signed deal with the Satui coal concession owner last year to conduct mining operations in return for offtake right.

Pontham also said that the company is also considering similar deals in Sumatra. He did not give detail.

Siam Cement requires 3.5MTPA of coal for its plants, 1MTPA of which would be supplied from Thailand and the rest from Indonesia. (denny)
