Sidrap wind power plant project expected to reach financial closure next month

Independent power producer PT UPC Renewables Indonesia said that financial closure for the 75 MW Sidrap wind power plant project in Sidrap, South Sulawesi, is expected early next month.

Brian Caffyn, CEO of UPC Renewable Indonesia said at the 6th Indonesia Electricity and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Conference on Thursday, that while waiting for the signing of the financial clsoure, currently the company is also conducting wind monitoring and ongoing development on three other locations in South Sulawesi representing potential of over 300MW.

Earlier, the company said that it has obtained the required government approval for the environmental impact assessment or Amdal, of the Sidrap project.

The project is part of a 300 MW Memorandum of Understanding that UPC Renewables Indonesia signed with the Governor of South Sulawesi in October 2014. The project will use twenty-eight 2.5 MW utility scale wind turbine generators. Once completed, this project will be the largest wind project in Indonesia. The Sidrap Wind Project will require an investment of US$ 180 million and will save an equivalent of 170,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year by replacing fossil fuel.
