PT Siemens Industrial Power (SIP) has received an order from state electricity company PLN to build tens of turbines with a capacity of less than 20 megawatt each for the company?s small scale power plants, Kontan reported on Tuesday.

SIP?s President Director Dierk Unterspann said on Monday that the turbines ordered by PLN would be delivered in five years. In the first stage, SIP will deliver four units of turbines with a capacity of 7 MW each to PLN?s coal fired power plant in Timika, Papua.

SIP, a joint venture between Siemens AG of Germany with a 60 percent stake and PT Nusantara Turbin and Propulsi (NTP) with a 40 percent stake, officially inaugurated the operation of its turbine factory in Bandung last month.

In addition, PLN has also ordered SIP to build a number of turbines with a capacity of less than 3 MW each for the company?s small power plants in about 200 isolated areas in the country as part of the five-year contract.(*)
