Siemens eyeing new power plant in Java

Wednesday, June 2 2004 - 06:49 AM WIB

German conglomerate Siemens AG is ready to invest to develop new 750-MW power plant in Java to help the country?s most populous island to overcome electricity shortage, a company official said Wednesday.

?Siemens is ready to invest and act as independent power producer (IPP). But we need legal certainty, especially in certainty of contract,? said Siemens Indonesia director Joachim Stender.

Stender said Siemens is ready to build and operate either coal-fired or combined cycle power plant.

Siemens has already 50 percent stake in PT. Jawa Power, an IPP that operates the 1,220-MW coal-fired power plant in Probolinggo, East Java. (godang)
