The agreement was sealed under an MoU signed by PLN President Director Nur Pamudji with his SIP counterpart Dierk Unterspann on Friday, according to a statement made available to petromindo.com.
The MoU was signed in Bandung, West Java, where SIP has a factory in the city that produces turbines with a maximum electricity generation capacity of 20 MW. SIP is also in cooperation with a number of state firms to secure certain raw materials for the turbines, generators and necessary spare parts such as PT Bharata Indonesia, PT Pindad, PT PAL and PT Dirgantara Indonesia.
Pamudji said the cooperation marked a new dawn in the country?s electricity industry, in particular on the availability of turbine and generator domestically. ?PLN has identified at least in the next few years, there will be 15 power plants with the capacity below 20 MW that will require the supply of turbines and generators. We hope SIP could provide us just that so we will no longer need imports.?
Under the agreement, SIP will produce 4 units of turbine and generator with capacity of 7 MW each to be used in the development of a coal power plant in Timika, Papua.
SIP is a joint venture between global giant Siemens AG and local partner PT Nusantara Turbin & Propulsi.
