Sinarmas to launch the first liquid coal fired power plant

A private company Sinarmas Group Power Plant in Karawang, West Java is slated to launch a liquid coal-fired power plant on March 22, using coal blended in water as fuel, an official says.
Helmi Najamuddin, Head of Coal Division at the state utility firm PT PLN, said that the use of liquid coal to fuel power plant was initiated in response to limited supply of natural gas and the high price of oil in recent years.
The Sinarmas' liquid power plant would also become the pilot project for PLN which will plans to apply the alternative fuel for other the power plants located near the ports.
?The PLN has nominated the use of such coal liquid power plant at Belawan power plant, Tanjung Priok power plant, Tanjung Perak power plant, Tambak Lorok power plant and Tello power plant,? Helmi told Petromindo.com.
The PLN has said that to generate electricity it would replace oil fuel among others with coal as part of efforts to help cut the amounnt of government?s subsidy.
