Singapore investor to explore iron ore in West Sumatra

An investor based in Singapore will develop an iron ore mine in Solok regency, West Sumatra, with a production capacity of about one million tons a year, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

The head of the mining office of the West Sumatra administration, Bambang Istiono, said in Padang on Wednesday that the Singapore company would export the iron ore to China.

Bambang did not disclose the name of the Singapore company, but he said that the company had already given a strong commitment to begin its export to China in March, this year.

According to him, local port operator PT Pelindo II has also committed to providing a 5,000 meter site in the port to be used as a receiving terminal for the shipment of the iron ore. (*)
