Sinopec to build Tuban oil refinery

PT Pertamina denied previous reports Tuesday that Sinopec Corp was pulling out of the Tuban project, and said Sinopec is still keen to jointly build an oil refinery in the East Java coastal town.

?We (Pertamina and Sinopec) still plan to start the construction of the Tuban oil refinery in 2007,? Suroso Atmomartoyo, a director with Pertamina, told Dow Jones Newswires.

?Who said that Sinopec has withdrawn its plan to build the oil refinery in Tuban??

However, Atmomartoyo didn?t reveal the capacity of the oil refinery that Pertamina and Sinopec will build in Tuban.

Pertamina, through its unit PT Elnusa and Iranian state-owned oil company Nafta Iran refinery will also build another refinery with a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels a day in Tuban, he added. (*)
