A special team of the Riau Police arrested on Tuesday six people for allegedly involved in stealing pipes and wires installed in production sites of PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) in the province.
The police, according to Riau Pos, suspected that the thieves are part of a syndicate specializing in stealing pipes and wires from the oil giant's oil production areas.
The police said that the syndicate had formed a good network to support their operation. The arrested suspects, for example, planned to sell the stolen pipes and wires to a waiting buyer in Medan.
Caltex has suffered a great financial loss due to the stealing of pipes and wires in its production areas.
The syndicate, according to the police, did not only steal pipes and wires but also electricity equipment such as transformer, an equipment to regulate electricity voltage. (*)
