Six diesel-fired power plants in E. Kalimantan to be shut down

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN will start gradually shutting down the operation of six diesel-fired power plants in East Kalimantan next year due to high cost, and as the PLTU Balikpapan 2x110MW coal-fired power plant starts to supply power to the Mahakam system in January.
Kaltimpost.co.id quoted East Kalimantan PLN Manager Marsudi Santoso Edi as saying that the six plants included PLTD Gunung Malang, PLTD Batakan, PLTD Petung in Penajam Paser Utara,PLTD Tanah Grogot, Long Ikis, and Batu Sopang in Paser.
Marsudi said the first unit of PLTU Balikpapan will start supplying power to the Mahakam system in January, and the second unit in May or June.(*)
