As many as six companies have taken part in the tender launched by the unit of state-owned electricity company PLN in Medan, North Sumatra to lease generator sets with total capacity of about 65 megawatt (MW), Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

Marodjahan Batubara, the spokesman of PLN's unit for northern Sumatra, said in Medan Wednesday that the six bidders of the tender included PT Sumber Daya Sewatama, PT Sugi Sama Persada, PT Astra Kemasan Energi, PT Potensi Bumi Power, and PT Kaltimex Energi.

"At present, PLN is still assessing the bids of the companies, " he said.

Marodjahan said that PLN expected about 30 MW power supply from the leased generators sets could enter the company's power distribution network in March, next year and another 35 MW in September.

PLN's unit in Medan opened a tender in November to rent generator sets with total capacity of about 65 MW to help cope with the power shortage in North Sumatra and Aceh.

The power supply in the two provinces totals only about 950 MW, much lower than the demand which reaches about 1,050 MW during busy hours. (*)
