Six mineral firms obtain export recommendation from MEMR

Six mineral mining companies have obtained recommendation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), which is necessary to get export permit from the Ministry of Trade, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Wednesday.

Director General of Mineral and Coal, R. Sukhyar said that the six firms have fulfilled the necessary requirements including processing and refining the mineral products at home prior to export.

The six firms include PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) Tbk, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, PT J Resources Asia Pasifik Tbk, PT Nusantara Halmahera Mineral, and PT Smelting Gresik. Sukhyar did not disclose the name of the other firm.

?We have issued the recommendation for the six firms,? he told Bisnis Indonesia.

Aneka Tambang and Vale Indonesia confirmed they have obtained the recommendation letter from the MEMR and are currently waiting for the issuance of export permit from the Ministry of Trade.

The new export procedure was introduced after the government bans the export of mineral ores starting January 12, requiring miners to process and refine the ores first at domestic smelters. (*)
