SKK Migas allocates gas for petrochemical industry

Upstream authority SKK Migas has allocated a significant amount of gas for petrochemical production in order to drive boost the development of petrochemical industry in the country.
The gas will be sourced from the Tangguh LNG plant in West Papua and the Asap field, also in West Papua, operated by Genting Oil.
"About 180 mmscfd of gas will come from Tangguh and another 200 mmscfd from Asap field which is expected to come onstream in 2019," said SKK Migas? Rudi Rubiandini, in Jakarta, Monday (13/5).
He noted however the exact amount of gas allocation from Tangguh is pending the finalization of reserve evaluation in 2016.
He said the gas will be used for the expansion of state owned fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda in Aceh and a planned fertilizer plant in Papua.
The decision regarding the gas allocation was made at the request of Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa who is concerned about the underdevelopment of petrochemical industry in the country.
