Upstream authority SKK Migas has approved termination of the North East Madura III PSC offshore East Java which is operated by US oil and gas firm Anadarko Petroleum Company, an official with upstream authority SKKMigas said.
This was said by SKK Migas?s Secretary I Gde Pradnyana in his presentation during a seminar on infrastructure in Jakarta recently.
Gde said the termination of the PSC brought the number of PSCs terminated by the agency to five this year. The four other PSCs that have been terminated are Manokwari, SE Palung Aru, Alas Jati and Enrekang.
The block which was awarded in Dec. 12, 2004, is 60 percent owned by Anadarko and the balance is held by Chevron Indonesia Company.
In 2006, Anadarko drilled two exploration wells in the block. According to BP Migas (now SKK Migas), the Jahe-1 and Merica-1 wells were plugged and abandoned on July 15 and July 29, respectively, after the firm failed to discover hydrocarbon.
In May 2009, Anadarko reported that Garam#1 exploration well, which was spudded in April, was plugged and abandoned as a non-commercial well. In 2011, the company quitted the NE Madura III block as it failed to discover hydrocarbon after drilling three exploration wells.
