SKK Migas encourages local firms, cooperatives to manage aging oil wells

Upstream authority SKK Migas launched on Tuesday a campaign in Sorong Regency, Papua, to encourage local administration-owned companies (BUMDs) and village cooperatives to help manage and operate aging oil wells in the region.
Yoseph R. Karunden, Head of the SKK Migas office overseeing the Papua and Maluku regions, said in a statement received Friday that the participation of the BUMDs and cooperatives in managing the aging wells would help both increase national oil production and the economic welfare of the local people.
Speaking in a ceremony held in Sorong to launch the campaign, which was attended by various officials of local governments, Yoseph said that in Sorong, there are already one village cooperatives unit which has been involved in managing 23 aging wells within the Pertamina EP working areas. He said that are still around 208 aging wells which await the participation of BUMDs and cooperatives in managing them.
He explained that dozens of BUMDs and cooperatives have been involved in running over a thousand of aging wells in Sumatra and Java within the working areas of Pertamina EP.
Meanwhile, Yunianto, Head of the SKK Migas production office, said that the potential of managing aging oil wells in Indonesia is quite huge. ?Currently, there are 13,824 aging wells across Indonesia, consisting of 754 active aging wells, and 13,079 non-active aging wells.?
