Upstream oil and gas authority had earlier this month issued a directive for oil and gas contractors in installing the required flowmeters in oil and gas wells, seen to among others avoid the use of a single type.

According to copy of the directive, signed by SKK Migas Deputy of Operation Fatar Yani Abdurrahman, the operation director of oil and gas contractors must ensure the reliability of the flowmeters in accordance with existing regulation.

The engineering contractor assigned to install the flowmeters must also meet the required criteria and must be approved by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

?The flowmeters used must be ensured it has the type license issued by the Ministry of Trade or other assigned institution,? the directive said, adding that the flowmeters to be installed must also obtained approval from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, and certified by the Directorate of Meteorology.

The directive is applied for new plans to install flowmeters in oil and gas well.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources last year issued Ministerial Regulation No 39/2016 requiring the installation of flowmeter at oil and gas blocks operated by production sharing contractors in the country to help better measure oil and gas production at each well. The flowmeters are supposed to have already been installed within a six-month period ending May 25, 2017.

This portal reported on August 10 that flowmeters have been installed in 108 oil and gas wells out of the targeted 209 wells. Engineering services company and equipment supplier PT Global Hadictech had in February of this year won tender for the installation of the flowmeters.
