Upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas reported that it has managed to drastically reduce oil spill volume during the period of 2013-2016.
SKK Migas said in a statement Tuesday that oil spill volume has dropped from 3,025 barrels in 2013 to 787 barrels in 2016.
?SKK Migas and production sharing contractors have implemented various efforts to trim down the oil spill volume, among others by maintaining oil and gas production facilities supported by trained personnel in oil spill response operation and in coordination with the security apparatus,? SKK Migas Public Relation Head, Taslim Z. Yunus in the statement.
Meanwhile, in the same statement, Senior Manager Relations of upstream oil and gas firm PT Medco E&P Indonesia, Teguh Imanto dismissed suggestion that oil spill by the company had polluted the Indonesian water territory.
He pointed out that all of the company?s oil fields are located onshore and that any oil spill incidents have always been cleaned up by the company properly to help minimize impact on the environment.
?As much as 91 percent of oil spill (incidents) at Medco E&P Indonesia are caused by sabotage and crude stealing,? he said, adding that the company has teamed up with the police and military as well as local people to help prevent sabotage oil stealing by irresponsible people.
