SKK Migas partners with BMKG

Upstream authority SKK Migas has signed a deal with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Board (BMKG) on the use of MKG data and information for the operation of upstream oil and gas projects.
SKK Migas stated in a press release on Wednesday that the agreement was signed by SKK Migas Chairman Amien Sunaryadi and BMKG Chairman Andi Eka Akya at the headquarters of SKK Migas in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Amien Sunaryadi said that the upstream oil and gas industry needs reliable data and information on meteorology, climatology, and geophysics (MKG) to ensure that all activities are implemented safely as scheduled. ?As a government institution, BMKG has the competence to provide such reliable data and information,? he said.
According to him, there are many data and information of BMKG that can be used by SKK Migas and the production sharing contractors (PSC) in supporting their upstream oil-gas activities, such as lifting, production, drilling, and other project activities, especially offshore activities.
The BMKG services include weather observation, such rain intensity, wind speed and direction, height of sea waves, under sea current, geophysic data, earthquakes, tsunami, and early hazard warning system related to oil spills, and forest fire smoke.
But on the other hand, BMKG can use offshore oil and gas facilities, such as platform, floating production storage offloading (FPSO) or floating storage offloading (FSO) to place its weather monitoring equipment.
He added that involving BMKG in the upstream industry is also part of utilizing national capacity. ?In the future such agreement will be also signed with Husky CNOOC Madura Limited (HCML), the operator of Madura Strait Block, and with ENI, the operator of Muara Bakau Block on providing data and information on maritime meteorology,? he said.
He expressed the hope that the agreements will improve the quality of all activities of SKK Migas, PSC contractors, and BMKG in their respective jobs and authorities.
