SKK Migas seeks drilling rigs amid tight supply

Upstream authority SKK Migas, is awaiting for tender results for the supply of jack-up rigs in the middle of this year required by oil and gas production sharing contractors operating in the country including Petronas, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, and Premier Oil.
Head of Drilling and Survey Division at SKK Migas, Arief Fansuri, however, acknowledged that getting rigs at the moment is quite tough given the strong demand in the Southeast Asia region amid ambitious deepwater exploration projects, stable crude oil price, and growing energy demand.
?Getting the rigs is quite tough given the stronger demand,? he told Petromindo.com Tuesday, pointing out to the brisk drilling activities in Indonesia and the region.
Arief said that drilling activities in Indonesia are currently being carried out among others by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore West Java (PHE ONWJ), PT Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore (WMO), Conocophillips, BP Tangguh, Total E&P Indonesie, Salamander Energy, dan Niko Resources.
Arief explained that currently 87 rigs are being operated in Indonesia. ?This week, there will be two exploration wells and 18 development wells to be drilled (by several PSCs).?
He added that in total, there will be 268 exploration wells and 1,178 development wells to be drilled this year.
