Slovakia eyes RI power plant

Slovakian and Indonesian governments have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Jakarta on Monday to promote the two countries? economic cooperation, Kompas daily reported on Tuesday.

Under the MoU document signed during the 7th Indonesia-Slovakia business forum in Jakarta on Monday, Slovakia agreed to cooperate with Indonesia to build a power plant with a capacity of 2 x 60 megawatt in Batam to help meet the growing electricity demand in the island.

?In addition, Slovakia will also explore the possibility of a building a power plant with a capacity of 2 x 600 MW in Batam to provide power supply for Singapore,? Indonesia?s Economic Coordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa said.

Besides a power plant, Slovak is also interested in building a cement plant in East Kalimantan with total investment of about US$4 billion, Hatta said, adding that both the power plants and cement plant would be built by Slovak companies, not involving the government.(*)
