Slovakia is interested to invest in the power sector in Indonesia, in particular in the development of 2x 60 MW coal-fired power plant in Batam worth US$185 million.

Dwi Djoko Wiwoho, Director of One Roof Integrated Services and PR at Batam authority (BP Batam), said PT Pembangunan Kota Batam (PKB), a company owned by the local government, will serve as the local partner in the project.

The investment plan is a follow-up on a cooperation agreement between PKB and a Slovakian company signed on June 12 in Bratislava, witnessed by Indonesia?s Coordinating Minister of Economy and Slovak?s Finance Minister.

?There are four fields of cooperation that were signed. One of which is the power plant in Batam valued at US$185 million,? said Dwi Djoko in a media statement issued on Saturday, as reported by Bisnis Indonesia.

Previously, BP Batam said it was studying the development of coal-fired plants totaling 800 MW in 2014. Of the total, 600 MW is planned to be sold to Singapore and the remaining 200 MW to surrounding areas of Batam.(*)
