The Bangka regency has imposed a number of fees to small companies operating non-tin mining activities in the region in a bid to increase revenues from local sources, Sriwijaya Pos reported on Thursday.
Small-scale mining firms which are in exploration stage are required to pay an annual fee of Rp 20,000 (1US$=11,000) per hectare of their concession area, while those which have started their commercial production are required to pay Rp 50 per hectare.
In addition to the annual fee, the small mine companies, which are also known as the people's mining operation, are also required to pay Rp 30,000 per hectare to obtain permits from the local administration.
Small companies are allowed only to operate outside tin mining activities as the concession rights for the tin ores has been exclusively given to publicly listed tin mining company PT Tambang Timah. (*)
