SMI set to start exploration study of Wae Sano geothermal potential

State-owned infrastructure fund company PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) is set to soon start exploration study of the Wae Sano geothermal potential in East Nusa Tenggara Province, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The paper quoted SMI President Director Emma Sri Martini as saying that the exploration study is targeted to be completed at the end of 2018, the results of which will be handed over to the government, which will then offer the Wae Sano geothermal working area to investors via tender, expected in the first quarter of 2019.

The government has assigned SMI to prepare the Wae Sano geothermal project to be offered to investors. According to Emma, Wae Sano has a potential to generate up to 50 MW of electricity.

SMI currently manages around Rp 3.8 trillion of so-called geothermal fund to help finance exploration activities. (*)
