State Owned Enterprise (SOE) Minsiter Rini Soemarno called on state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and state owned EPC contractor PT Barata Indonesia to settle their differences in order to speed up the completion of PLTU Jeranjang coal-fired power plant project in Lombok, West Nusatenggara.

Rini gave Barata until end-January 2015 to finish the construction of the first unit of the power plant project with a capacity of 25 MW, and until end-March 2015 to finish the contruction of the second unit of the power plant, also with the capacity of 25 MW.

She said people in Lombok island badly needs the power plant since some parts of the island is still supplied with costly power from diesel engines.

The project was launched in a ground-breaking ceremony held on April 30, 2009, presided over by then Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro. The power plant, situated in Jeranjang hamlet, Kebon Ayu village, Gerung district, Lombok Barat regency.

In the initial plan, there would be three units to be built there, each with the capacity of 25 MW. The contract to construct two units was awarded to Barata and the contract to build another unit was given by the consortium of PT Wasa Mitra Engineering, PT Twink Indonesia dan PT Ciria Putra Sinergi. The two units handled by Barata is part of the Phase One 10,000 MW fast-track program. The project is financed by PLN.

According to Rini, under contract, Barata should have finished the construction of the two units in April last year.

The reason that Barta has failed to finish the project on schedule is disagreement between Barata and PLN regarding the cost of the project. Barat was unable to acquire lands for the project in the first designated area that it decided to relocate it elsewhere, which resulted in the increase in the project?s costs over the initial budget.

?PLN and Barata are both SOEs. They are supposed to be able to problems like this as soon as possible,? she said.

She called on both companies to ask for helps from the state comptroller (BPKP) to calculate the costs. (*)
