Soldier, security injured in latest Freeport shooting

A soldier and a security officer were injured when a military vehicle was shot by an unidentified man on Wednesday at the mining site of copper and gold miner PT Freeport Indonesia in West Papua, Kompas reported Thursday.
Cendrawasih Military Command's spokesman Lt. Col. Susilo said the incident took place at Mile 38, Kali Kopi post, Nayaro, Mimika at 11.45 a.m. local time.
He said two of the injured were Lt. Col. Viktor Deny and Freeport's security officer Khusairi.
Spate of shootings at Freeport's area frequently occurred on the road leading to Freeport's Grasberg gold and copper mining sites in the last few months. A number of workers and police have been killed. (*)
